17th April | Rough Trade

If there’s anything that beats listening to music, performing music, composing music or recording music, it’s talking about aspects of all four. What if you could talk about aspects of all four and then listen to some damn fine music as well? New podcast, Behind The Scene, may just satisfy your manifold musical needs, as well as bringing like-minded souls together.

The evening’s hosts are Ruth Royall, Bristol singer/songwriter and Gallimaufry mainstay, and BBC Music reporter and familiar BCfm voice, Harriet Robinson. They’ll be talking industry tactics with a panel of professionals. The first panel focuses on songwriting.

Ruth and Harriet will be joined by Kanan Keeney, who wrote ‘Late Nights And Heart Breaks,’ the Hannah Williams track that was sampled as the title track of JAY-Z’s album 4:44. They’ll also be speaking with Annie Gardiner, founder of the label, Crystalfuzz, and Bristol singer/songwriter, Emily Isherwood (fka Nugget), whom you may have seen during Independent Venue Week at Big Jeff’s showcase at The Exchange.

Why not get to the heart of the creative industries by picking the brains of these three insiders? The hosts will be seeking, with their guests, to demystify what gets artists on the road to success, helping us to see, or perhaps even step, beyond what might otherwise seem like closed doors.

The evening will consist of a live panel, which will be recorded for a bi-monthly podcast available free on all mainstream podcast services. There will then be a chance to network, before a live performance by a special guest show at the end of each evening. This month’s artist will be your host, Ruth Royall. Her performance will be exclusive to guests who attend the ticketed event.

It all takes place at Rough Trade on 17th April, beginning at 7.30pm. Tickets are a modest £7. Considering the expertise on the panel, the chance to network and some splendid tunes from Ruth Royall, all for the price of a bottle of potentially dubious wine, or a couple of buckets of latte, you’re staring at that rarest of 2018 creatures, value for money.
