Whether you’re a fan or not of protest music it’s very hard to have not noticed the influence of Billy Bragg on the years. He first made his mark in the 80’s with his unbridled support of the miners strike and his poetically vehement opposition to Thatcherism. He is also quite possibly the only British musician to get into the charts with a song about the morality of arms dealing in peacetime.

His current tour sees him join forces with American country rock artist Joe Henry. This is off the back of a journey the two of them took last year across the USA via train.

The Shine A Light album produced is a collection of some of the music inspired by the culture of American railroad travel. It was recorded in the actual waiting rooms and by trackside as they moved from one side of the country to the other.
