9th October | Thekla
This year has been monumental for Cardiff quartet, Boy Azooga. From performing on Later… with Jools Holland to their own stellar Maida Vale session, the excitement surrounding the outfit is more than deserved. Drummer turned frontman, Davey Newington comes from a line of successful musicians, and the influence of his rhythmical heritage permeates throughout his work. Having been a staple in the Welsh music scene for years, Davey accompanied by Daf, Dylan and Sam, is expeditiously creating an original sound that explores a hybrid of genres.
Boy Azooga’s debut LP, 1, 2 Kung Fu has been critically acclaimed across the board for its amalgamation of psych-rock to catchy bangers. The album itself was lovingly crafted by Davey and rightly loved by listeners. With band in tow, their live sets are fast becoming (without a doubt) sell-out events. In the landscape of up-and-coming bands, Boy Azooga have swiftly surpassed newcomer level. They have stormed to the commendable status of being an enthralling, must-see band, where their future boasts immeasurable promise.
Earlier this year, Boy Azooga took to The Crofters Rights. Now they have upscaled to Thekla. Bringing support in the form of Man Of Moon and shoegazers Sock, 9th October will be an evening where you can still get the chance to see a future festival-headlining act in an intimate setting.
