Just a couple of weeks after the release of her sophomore solo album, Tell Me How You Really Feel, Aussie grunge rocker, Courtney Barnett is back in Bristol as a part of a European tour. In the last few years, she has bounced from success to success with her first album, Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit earning her international recognition and a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.
With her grungy Lou Reed-style speak-sing delivery and her lush guitar laying, she proved a natural fit for Lotta Sea Lice, a duet album with American slacker, Kurt Vile last year. But to promote her vulnerable story album Tell Me How You Really Feel, Barnett returns to the O2 with her backing band as part of a string of sold-out shows. The album covers a range of topics from social anxiety to online trolling and has been met with widespread praise.
Barnett has worked consistently to promote Melbourne music, including fostering many artists through Milk! Records, the label she co-runs with partner and fellow musician, Jen Cloher. Initially a vehicle for the self-release of Barnett’s EP, I’ve Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris, Milk! Records has since snapped up the like of The Finks, Ouch My Face, and Loose Tooth. The latter will be supporting Courtney at the O2 with their similarly Pavement-influenced lo-fi feel.
