13th December | Loco Klub
‘Tis the holiday season, and Bristol’s best kept secret, Loco Klub, has a special surprise for their final event of the year, with a double headline show on Friday 13th December. Danalogue, one half of eclectic duo, The Comet is Coming will be bringing Bollywood to the Temple Meads venue by performing an iconic album close to his heart. Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat was recorded in 1982 by Charanjit Singh and channelled acid house years before the genre established itself in more contemporary forms in the USA.
Danalogue is a unique personality who will no doubt breathe new life into this record. Die-hard fans will know him well from his YouTube series, Ask Danalogue, where he answers questions sent to him such as, “What sound does Donald Trump’s hair make when it wakes up?” and “What is love?”. And when I say ‘answers questions’, I mean he makes an introspective instrumental as an answer.
But enough about him, make room for jazz band, Cykada. Inspired by African and Eastern European music, they combine heady electronica with meaty riffs, making a strong case for modern jazz. They are living proof that changing the face of a genre isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Their biggest gig was a raucous set at Glastonbury Festival this June and their Bristol debut is sure to make waves. For those who think jazz is all about classic figures like Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong, come take a peek at the bigger picture.
