It is a well-established fact that Bristol is a hub for all things emo and alternative. Having hosted a range of bands from either end of the indie spectrum, Bristol has garnered a reputation for curating some of the finest forces in that genre. The good ship Thekla is the next to host alt-rock veterans, Death Cab for Cutie this coming week and we couldn’t be more excited.

Born from the ashes of the 90s grunge movement, the dreamy emo group were formed in 1997 and soon grew to critical acclaim with their 2005 album Plans reaching platinum status in the US. Having heralded from the grunge movement’s holy land, Washington, the band established themselves as a unique post-angst force, writing heavily lyrical tracks and utilising a variety of unorthodox instruments, such as glockenspiels and organs.

More recently, their ninth studio album, Thank you for Today was released in August 2018 and was received with delight, with Rolling Stone rating the album 4/5 stars. Mirroring the same discontent and boy-next-door lyricism as their previous albums, Thank You For Today is a bold and moving album, filled with intricate melodies and powerful sounds. The band creates a nostalgic atmosphere, delightful to experience and captivating to watch.
