Festival Season | Preview

Festival season seems to come around faster each year, but with the help of our 2015 guide you’ll soon have the deets on Bristol’s best events, from the finest new-music showcases and summer parties to weekends putting us on the map for everything from metal to post-rock.

City Centre
23rd May | £25adv

Key Acts: Saint Raymond, The Wyches, Best Coast, Honeyblood, Menace Beach & Vérité.

A longstanding champion of new music in the city, Dot-To-Dot now celebrates its tenth year of kicking it blogosphere. So pick your faves and head down, but as we all know — the magic is in the acts you weren’t planning to see.

Eastville Park
23-24th May | £39.50 [per day, 4th rel.]

Key Acts: Jessie Ware, Azealia Banks, Artful Dodger, Crazy P, Four Tet, Disciples & Gorgon City.

If you ever needed evidence that Team Love really do love us, 2015’s LSTD line-up is clearly it. A healthy mix of big-hitters, old school names and more leftfield acts all add up to one hot weekend. New home, same great vibes.

Gilcombe Farm
31st July-1st August | £59adv [weekend]

Key Acts: Lamb, Submotion Orchestra, Duologue, Shapes Takeover, Goan Dogs, & Zun Zun Egui.

Started by a few friends as their own alternative to ‘big’ festivals, Farmfest has certainly grown these last few years. Quite rare is their knack for spot-on new-music bookings, while a mix of local favourites and farm ciders ensure you don’t forget where you are.

29-31st May | £38.50adv [per day]

Key acts: Converge, Sunn O))), Earth, Goatsnake, Voivod, Triptykon, Pallbearer, Svalbard, Vallenfyre, Nails, Sonance.

We weren’t entirely sure it was possible for the crew at Temples HQ to top last year’s line up, but they’ve smashed it. Once again, we’ll be enjoying all of the darkest metal over three days at Motion.

Chepstow Racecourse
21-24th May | £115adv [weekend]

Key Acts: Omar Perry, Sam & The Womp, GMS, Huey Morgan DJ Set & Laid Blak.

Bristol is at times a clash of hippies and hipsters. Here’s an event where the balkan and psych-trance-loving former win out with huge grins on their faces. Combine this with the city’s less-than-secret Jamaican influence and you’re close to this year’s Sunrise vibe.

City Centre
25th Apr | £30

Key Acts: Skindred, While She Sleeps, Cancer Bats, Rolo Tomassi, Allusondrugs, Brawlers & Tellison.

The event famously billed as ‘the UK’s premier indoor alternative festival’ needs little introduction, nor do many of its diverse guests from the world of alt-rock, metal, hardcore, grunge and beyond. Set to be one blinder of a snap-back’n’tatts-a-rama, you know who you are.

Fernhill Farm
20-22nd August | From £75 [weekend]

Key Acts: Dillinger Escape Plan, 65daysofstatic, Rolo Tomassi, Deerhoof, & Emma Ruth Rundle.

Now a firm feature in any self-respecting alternative enthusiast’s festival calendar, ATG boasts an impressive mix of postrock, mathrock and much more. For those seeking something truly different in an outdoor festival, this could be the one for you.

City Centre
24th October | £TBC

Key acts: First acts to be announced soon.

Despite its late date, we’d be remiss in not including one of Bristol’s tastemaking behemoths. Early birds sold out faster than you can say ‘Crack’ without a single act announced — expect their own blend of leftfield, electronic and sweat-on-the-walls guitar music.
