‘Janet’, the follow-up to Birdman Cult‘s 2019 debut offering, ‘Snakes’ will have its official release on April 17th via Donut Recordings. But prior to their show at Rough Trade this Friday (13th), they’re releasing the official video to the track and we’re delighted to be able to give you a first look.

The track taps into Joe Eden’s college days and a particularly instructive dalliance with Janet, who was known for her formidable qualities, far more hardy and worldly-wise, it seems, than young Joe. The Janet in the song’s story may be an exaggerated version of the one in real life, but you can tell through the hyperbole just how much of a lasting impression she made.

It’s been said before that a lot of dancing is the vertical expression of the horizontal intention. It sounds like the titular ‘Janet’ taught Joe to dance. Or maybe that should be ‘dance’. Somewhere between the scuzzy, breathless exuberance of the track and the disconcerting moves in the video, it ought to remind you of a mis-spent youth or perhaps one night you had, up to this point, attempted to block out of your mind.
