Sam Griffiths of quartet The Howl & The Hum is a compelling performer. He is a showman – the show not being so much from frontman posturing, but from an artist fully immersed, mind and body in what he is doing. You could see this in droves at The Louisiana. His performance, their lyrical acumen and curious storytelling, and how attuned to each other as a band they are after a relatively time together also made it a fantastic night.
There’s something undeniably electrifying about The Howl & The Hum. Everyone talks about their sound being akin to the soundtrack of a film, but this performance only went further in showing that someone needs to write the narrative of a film to harness the power of their songs, rather them being the embellishment to someone else’s artistry. This kind of sound warrants a bigger audience, but to have them to ourselves at The Louisiana felt like an honour and a pleasure.
