Kelly Jobanputra joined our writing team in April 2018 and gave us an immediate sense that her musical senses were well-honed. She was straight in for her first review with a strong card in the Bristol New Music Top Trumps pack, electing to cover Keir at The Louisiana. Her background in radio, both local and national, made her an immediate asset to our list of contributors.

There’s always a chance as a reviewer that you can earmark a band for bigger successes and get it spot on. In her final review for us, in October 2018, she wrote, “Keep your eye on Swimming Girls; as they proved at The Louisiana, they have what it takes to make the big time.” Fast-forward to April 2019 and Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition saw them emerge as runners-up from thousands of entries.

Understandably, Kelly took time out from Bristol In Stereo after the birth of her second child. We were looking forward to her imminent return to the reviewing fray and were deeply saddened to learn of her death. We offer our deepest condolences to her family and we express our thanks publicly for her always-apposite words and the musical love that she shared with us all.

RIP, Kel.
