2014 certainly set things into motion for soul popstrels Jungle, not only did their eponymous debut album stride confidently into the UK Top ten, they also played some impressive gigs such as Later With Jools Holland, Jimmy Kimmel, and the mighty master of festivals, Glastonbury. Not to mention the ten other festivals they played in 2014 between July and September, from the likes of Reading and Leeds Festival and iTunes Festival, to Pukkelpop and Fuji Rock Festival. The record itself attracted a positive response from British critics like NME, The Independent, and The Observer. Yet they didn’t just dominate the festival summer season, they were short listed for the Mercury Prize in September 2014.
And the postmodern throwback 70’s funk group really are showing no signs of slowing down from the most recent flurry of dates sprung upon us. On Thursday February the 18th, Jungle will grace us with their presence and unique performance at The O2 Academy. Either groove to the subtle trumpet shuffle of ‘Busy Earnin’, or recreate the moves from the music video for flirtatious funk marcher ‘Time’. Whether you intend to let loose and manically dance like you’re in the wild, or go for the cool controlled head bop, Jungle is definitely not a show to miss out on.
