The latest album from Kurt Vile very much feels like he’s smoked a joint and sat down on an orange autumn evening – venting learned and educated words of roads travelled and personal experiences.
The show at Anson Rooms is quite rightly sold out. The effortless beauty of ‘B’lieve I’m Going Down’ will both warm and inspire those lucky enough to witness this one. Tracks like ‘I’m An Outlaw’ and ‘Pretty Pimpin’ should front the pack of new material – but that’s not to say older cuts won’t be aired.
It very much felt like Vile had blown it after hearing the last album from his former band The War On Drugs, but this is the perfect response. Intelligent, wise and quietly genius. This show has the potential to be one of the finest in Bristol this year.
