Many of the club nights you’ve ever been to have essentially showcased the history of music according to white dudes with guitars and/or keyboards. Whatever else is going to be unleashed on us after 12th December, the DJs that brought us Woman’s Hour are looking to shift the clubnight paradigm somewhat and are returning to the Mothers Ruin to launch Lemonade on 14th December.

Celebrating the best womxm in pop, they’re promising the very best of pop, R&B, punk, indie and electro, as well as their favourite 2019 bangers. The hugely comprehensive list of prospective artists they’re playlisting has The Gossip and Lizzo as two of the first three acts. Maybe there’s a Lizzo/Ditto-themed dress code?

That said, it also includes names like Patti Smith, Courtney Barnett and St Vincent, so diversity and the highest of quality seems to be the link between all five artists mentioned so far.

On her album, Lemonade, Beyoncé asks, “What’s worse, lookin’ jealous or crazy?” on ‘Hold Up’. Jealousy can be firmly avoided by putting this one into your calendar now. Pleasant craziness can be reasonably expected at the Ruin when this night makes its debut.
