One can only speculate was the motivation was for Mr and Mrs Elliott when they decided to name their four daughters Alison Cara Elliott, Anna Coral Elliott, Abby Charlotte Elliott, and Amy Catherine Elliott. Four ACEs. Were they making a Tiger Woods-style attempt to groom their children as an elite wing-walking troupe? Was Mr Elliott preparing for a bizarre futuristic era where you play poker with humans rather than cards, and he wanted to make sure he could beat that smug Mr King down the road?

Regardless, by the time Alison and Abby were in their early teens, the Elliotts had their answer – the girls were going to be musicians. Eventually, all four would combine to form Maid of Ace, a rattling good punk rock band. Definitely a better contribution to the world than being wing-walkers (or Tiger Woods, for that matter).

After knocking around their local scene in Hastings for a while, the band have now built a good following around the country off the back of their two long-players, Maid of Ace and Maid in England. While they do venture into serious areas, such as in ‘Minimum Wage’, the emphasis with Maid of Ace is very much on good old-fashioned FUN. Fans of The Distillers especially will find plenty to enjoy in the booming riffs and Alison’s raspy vocals.

Maid of Ace. Go all in.
