Makala Cheung ‘Empty Pocket’ | Single Review

As someone known for fusing musical genomes, Makala’s already well-blended world of pop and Chinese tones has received a retrospective drum’n’bass injection. A well-bolstered breakbeat and an host of synthesis later, this collaboration with Jay Unearthed and Phantom Trophies comes to full, banger life.

Taking time out here and there to share her trademark positive lyrics, Makala sings of life’s pleasures, taking your time and being true to yourself. But it’s allowing the lyricism to share the limelight with some viscerally satisfying bits of arrangement here that has resulted in her punchiest, most club-ready output to date.
