Fancy a bit of good news?
It looks like Bristol will be getting the big arena that’s been talked about for so long, as Communities Secretary, Robert Jenrick, has approved YTL’s plans to build a 17,000 capacity venue in the Brabazon hangars at Filton Airfield. Construction could begin in 2021, potentially seeing the venue completed in 2023.
Andrew Billingham, the Managing Directot of the YTL Arena Complex said of the recent decision, “During the current COVID-19 crisis this is especially welcomed news. It is a huge step forward for everybody in Bristol and the region. We are fully committed to opening a venue that will inspire future generations, giving our great city a beating heart across the global music and entertainment industry.”
The three hangars between them will house a versatile auditorium for performances, a flat floor space suitable for trade shows, exhibitions or conventions, and a 365-day a year space called The Hub – a place to eat, work and play.
And just who could play the first show? While you’re pondering that meaty quandary, here’s the video to IDLES’ ‘Mercedes Marxist’:
