Kerri Watt @ Exchange, Bristol (09/10/13)

In a wave of 90s revivals, and with shoegaze and R’n’B already under our belts, is it only natural that we next delve into country-tinged queens of pop?

You’d be forgiven for aurally mistaking this new singer-songwriter for Sheryl Crow, LeAnn Rimes or many other such big-hitters of the time, but Kerri Watt‘s take on southern-twang and the folk narrative is charming and her own.

Not surprising that this particular sound captured her heart, the young Glaswegian’s studied in the US before returning the UK to train further and pursue a solo career. As a singer, pianist and thespian, her chance acquaintance with the acoustic guitar served as a turning point, further reaffirming her  ideals of making “real music with real instruments” – and so she did.

With a smattering of globetrotting shows, a stint with producer Gordy Goudie [Simple Minds, Echo & The Bunnymen], and endless pop potential – catching Kerri at the intimate Exchange may become your new claim to fame.

Tickets available here.
