For the best part of a decade now, Bristol-based Laura Kidd has traversed almost every known alcove of the music industry, from performer to producer and almost everywhere in-between. Starting way back in 2009, the critically-acclaimed multi-instrumentalist has garnered a reputation as one of the most prolific artists working in the alternative scene today.
Operating mainly under the pseudonym She Makes War, Kidd’s CV is certainly something to marvel at. Having worked with the likes of Clive Deamer, Dan Austin and The McCarricks, it’s clear even on paper that this artist draws from an impressive depth of influence to create her orchestrally emotive grunge-laden movements. Often mentioned amongst the likes of Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Bikini Kill and Suede, it’s not hard to see just why Kidd has amassed the support of the top tastemakers, from Radio 6 through Radio X, behind almost each one of her many professional outings.
As is such with most mainstays on the alternative live circuit, She Makes War has made her name by cutting her teeth with an extensive touring schedule that has barely slowed to walking pace in an entire decade. Supporting the likes of The Levellers, Tune Yards, British Sea Power and The Magic Numbers, to name a few, is almost always going to test an artist’s ability to control a stage and create an experience as memorable as it is palpable.
With new tracks on the horizon, She Makes War stops off at The Crofters Rights to see us out of this Great British Summer.
