19th October | Various Venues

If you’ve become a little complacent, listening to the same bag of artists, great though they may be, it is time for an injection of new creative inspiration. Simple Things is spreading its cool gang tentacles across the city once again to brighten up your October with a huge line-up.

The programme, split into day and night, contains a wide range of performance, installation art and discussions. It spans across venues including Studio 5 at the Watershed, SWX, Rough Trade, Colston Hall, various spaces at We The Curious, Christmas Steps and the less assuming Sportsman. Noods Radio will also be broadcasting live from the terrace of We The Curious, with interviews and track selections from various Simple Things artists.

Simple Things Day covers the main chunk of the festival. Perhaps you want to see Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja in conversation with Andrew Melchior, the band’s chief technical officer, at IMAX. Maybe you want to catch the bands in Colston Hall Foyer, like the beautifully sultry Nilüfer Yanya, whom you’ve probably seen on COLORS. If you want to be riled up with pop-rock, why not try German female get-up, Gurr.

You must catch Tiny Deaths at Rough Trade, all the way over from the States, who combine the duo’s contrasting backgrounds of heavily experimental electronica and R&B. Also playing in that neck of the woods is Otha, whose club disco will get you in the mood for Simple Things Night, housed at Lakota and Coroner’s Court.

Simple Things is about taking a dip into the unknown. You’re in for a treat.
