Electronic collaboration Svelte first gained our attention in the late months of last year with ‘Lipstick Melts’; now the duo return with a further glorious single: ‘Sleeping Tonight’. Plundering the rich depths of Bristol’s musical heritage, Svelte produce an incarnation of dance music with a decidedly moody slant.
But whilst it’s all too easy to view the release in light of local trip hop luminaries – Massive Attack, Portishead, etc – this single bears resemblances to artists farther afield; the leftfield electronica of The Knife, with its sinister, buzzing synth lines, or even the haunting, atmospheric swells of Jon Hopkins.
