Renowned for providing an important platform for emerging artists, Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent Competition finals took place this week. Bristol’s Swimming Girls were awarded third place, with Hasting’s singer-songwriter Marie White coming first, and MC Che Lingo taking second place.
As part of their win, Swimming Girls receive a £2,500 Talent Development Prize from the PRS Foundation and will also play at the festival. The band have very much been garnering acclaim for their dark, atmospheric electro-pop and this accolade will certainly further their ever-growing, and greatly deserved, following. Fellow Bristol artist Iiola also performed in the competition finals and will be given a slot at Glastonbury, alongside the other finalists.
With other Bristol acts Giant Swan and Heavy Lungs recently added to the festival line-up, Swimming Girls and Iiola join a wide-ranging array of incredible artists repping the local scene.
