The Spark Gone After Twenty-one Years

UPDATE 2015: The Spark has since returned as a sister magazine to Bristol 24/7. You can follow them here.

After over two decades of flying the flag for the alternative Southwest, quarterly magazine The Spark as we know it is no more.

The news comes as Blue Sax Publishing, the independent publishing company behind the magazine, announce that the company is to be liquidated, citing forces beyond their control:

Operating as a free, ethical, independent magazine has never been easy and despite the best efforts of our core team and all our contributors, we are unable to continue to produce the magazine.

The title itself is up for sale and may return in the future, under new guise or by way of another publisher. The current situation considered, it seems unlikely that a buyer would be independent, or that a more traditional publisher would be able to capture what The Spark represented for the region.

While The Spark’s email system is no longer active, you can still leave them messages via their Facebook page here.
