After a four year wait one of the world’s biggest bands, U2, hit the road again in 2015. That is, if superstar singer Bono recovers in time from the injuries he received from literally hitting the road last November.
A serious accident suffered by Bono while cycling around Central Park in New York has, according to an open letter to fans, meant that will have to “concentrate hard to be ready for the U2 tour in fitness terms.”
Bono broke his arm in six places, fractured his eye socket and damaged his hand and shoulder blade, resulting in a lengthy operation in which his arm was repaired with titanium.
Fans will be hoping that the frontman makes a speedy recovery as U2 embark on their Innocence + Experience 2015 World Tour in May, starting in North America. They reach Europe after the summer and you can buy your tickets here for a host of dates which include four nights at London’s O2 Arena in October.
Following the release of their controversial iTunes giveaway album Songs of Innocence, bassist Adam Clayton suggested that U2 might try something a little bit different on this tour. Famed for their giant stadium events—their 360 tour lasted three years and grossed over $700m—this time around the Irishmen have returned to the relatively intimate settings of arenas, with the band playing at least two nights in each city— and Clayton hinted at a surprise in store for fans.
Acoustic versions of their new songs were also recorded by the foursome and packaged along with the deluxe version of Songs of Innocence. These will form the basis of an idea in which one night in each city will be an “explosive” rock n’ roll event, the next a more relaxed, “intimate” offering.
Both evenings will showcase the incredible song-writing of this most enduring of rock bands and one of 2015’s biggest events should not be missed. Bono is doing everything he can to be there himself.
