With his debut solo EP Life’s Hard out now, and ahead of his new residency on CAMP radio, we caught up with Dick Dent to talk Plantasia, The Old E and mac & cheese.

Released at the end of last month, Life’s Hard comprises a blissful sonic reverie awash with swirling, nostalgic synths and resplendent instrumentation. Across the tracks, Dent channels something of an effervescent synth-pop balladeer with his tender crooning aching amidst an expansive, vibrant sound palette.

With the EP’s inception rooted in London life, Life’s Hard sees Dent evoke the rush and dynamism of the city via shimmering, propulsive electronica. Fittingly released during lockdown, isolation forms a key theme within the record as Dent alights on the spectrum of experiences with his poignantly minimalist and considered lyrics.

This coming Monday (29th) Dick Dent begins a monthly residency on CAMP Radio, tune in here, and check out the animated accompaniment (by Sarah MacGregor) for ‘Lighthouse’ below.
