January 30th | Old England

This January, Bristol-based events promoter 1% of One turns three. To celebrate, they’re organising a gig at The Old England with a completely secret line-up. Considering their upcoming slew of gigs, including diverse and exciting acts like Alex G, black midi, and Hannah Diamond, it’s a sure bet that the company’s owner Richard Walsh has got something brilliant planned. This week, we chatted with the man himself about what makes 1% of One such an essential part of the Bristol scene.

1% of One was bred from an excitement with Bristol’s growing music scene, and a simple principle: “If an artist sounds good, I’ll host em! If there’s an interesting venue space, I’ll use it!” Behind this ethos is a passion what makes 1% so special: a genuine love for the city’s music. Speaking on this, Richard explained, “Bristol is currently shaping the future of UK music. Not only is the community an incredible point of reference as to how diverse artists can co-exist, but also the talent coming out of the city is soon to be unstoppable.”

With future collaborations including Ritual Union Bristol, and a determination to continue fostering talent in the city, 1% and Richard have a bright future ahead of them too. But what of this secret line-up? Richard had little to say other than “We’re going transatlantic!” Whilst that’s not a lot to go on, considering their track record, it’s guaranteed this party will still be an absolute belter.

We can’t give you a teaser video for one of the bands playing at 3% of One, as we don’t know who they are, so here’s eight hours of footage of a nice crackling fire instead:
