What is Kele without the ripping guitars of Russell Lissack ringing behind his soulful voice? On this outing from his recent solo LP ‘The Boxer’, he manages to create the straight up chart pop vibe he was searching for. Be wary when approaching the full album; the harmonies aren’t always this luscious, the drums sometimes fall a bit flat and the general synth mongering a bit like someone who doesn’t quite get how to use them. ‘Everything You Wanted’ has plenty of radio friendly vibes and love-addled lyrics for young girls to swoon to ensure it’ll be an early pinnacle for Kele’s so far short solo career. The slightly more macho of us (erm) can’t wait for Russell to get back on the scene, frankly.
